The rationale for injection is that it bypasses breakdown in the gut and first-pass metabolism in the liver. It's a reasonable rationale. A finding from the same study that's rarely mentioned and genuinely useful: NAAD proved to be a highly sensitive marker of real NAD⁺ repletion 1. In other words, there's a way to measure whether something actually happened — which doesn't exist for most “anti-aging” products.
